This course is intended as a gentle tutorial of how to use computers to make your work flow more efficient. Topics include how and why to right click, uses of Word Processors, Spreadsheets, PowerPoint basics, Email and attachments, web browsers and shortcuts.
Right Click
Right clicking the mouse gives you a new menu with different options such as copy, cut, and paste.
Word Processors
Microsoft Word, TextEdit, and OpenOffice are all word processors. The techniques we use to interact with these applications are almost identical. If you learn the techniques and the "lingo" you can apply them in any piece of software to get your work done.
Copy and Paste
One of the most useful skills in word processing is the ability to copy and paste text. Keyboard shortcuts can make this process even more efficient. Here are the keystrokes:
| Apple | PC | description |
| apple+c | ctrl+c | copies text to the clipboard. |
| apple+v | ctrl+v | pastes text from the clipboard. |
| apple+x | ctrl+x | cuts text from a document to the clipboard. |
the key sequences work just about universally across any software such as OpenOffice, Spreadsheets, etc.
Spreadsheets
Spreadsheets are programs that help you organize, manipulate and interpret data.
- Excel
- OpenOffice Spreadsheet
Are examples of these programs.
Presentation Software
Presentation software allows you to create slides, video and audio content; to enhance lectures.
