First Week done

Filed under: education, tech — Tags: — gff @ 3:26 pm

First week of school is done. 109 Manhattan Virtual Classrooms (MVC) and as many questions on MVC, software, computers etc. I feel a little exhausted.

Set up wordpressMU on both jasperstreet and Noleton (school server), looking forward to taking that for a go with the students. LHS Wiki is still going strong. The JS installation of wpMU can be found here: http://jasperstreet.homeip.net/wpmu, but it is just a proof of concept and gives the specs of the server, but if you want to look at it there is the link. It also has a customized theme installed just to see if I can offer custom themes to users, I can.

Despite the complaining I love it.

Oh, yes and in between I did a little teaching. All my classes look great, everything is going quite swimmingly.

Technology Integration

I needed a copy of the Final Exam Schedule in electronic format so I could access it when and where I needed it. After 5 min of frustrating searches for the official document … I came up with this high tech solution:

final_schedule09

pretty sweet.

I am testing the waters on a business model; get in now for free. If you need an install to test:

just drop me a line and I will create your own install of your choice(s) in exchange for you communicating feedback to me on what works or does not work.

down time; drupal; pligg; and lost

Filed under: education, tech — Tags: — gff @ 8:29 pm

I have returned from the desert island.  I lost connection on my iMac (wireless 802.11g) and tried to reconfigure connection, and killed the whole network.  Basically the Belkin Wireless g router is not really a router, or at least not a good one, but is a sufficient wireless access point.

When I reconfigured my network with the belkin to recieve the main connection from the cable modem … it recieved it, but would not properly route the connection to anymore than one computer at a time.  This of course is a problem.  Since I need to be able to have my server, my desktop, and other computers on the internet/lan at one time.

So, I had to revert to a wired connection and router with the belkin configured an access point to two wireless nodes … my computer and the family computer.

jasperstreet suffered some downtime, but is back up.

I installed drupal, pligg (which did not work), and mutiple copies of wordpress.  My installs can be found at: http://jasperstreet.homeip.net/drupal, pligg is on a LAN not accessible to outside world, and the second wordpress is not interesting and will be left as an excersise to discover :).

I am basically trying to evaluate the feasabillity of a business model.  Offering users choice of CMS targeted at the education community.
